Deer Hill 6/4/06
Little Deer Hill 1090'

Finally, we get some time to spend in Kevin's (Evan's) Notch. There is really nothing like being in the White Mountains in early June. The flies haven't gotten that bad yet and the wildflowers are scattered everywhere like litter on a windy day in the city. The Pink and Pale Lady Slippers were everywhere we looked. Things were fogged in and there were periods of light rain when we arrived. We were itching to stretch our legs after the long ride, regardless of the weather, so we made the short ride from our base camp at the Basin Campground over to the Deer Hill Trailhead near the AMC Cold River Camp. You park at the Baldface Circle Trail parking area and take the Deer Hill Connector 4/10ths of a mile to the dam on the Cold River. The trail begins as you cross the dam and start to climb. There are some nice ledges near the summit with good local views. Because of the weather I am not sure of what else may be seen from here. At the summit it began to rain again, so we didn't continue on to Big Deer Hill. We'll have to return on a nice day to see what we missed.
