I've thought about winter camping before, then I come to my senses. We've been camping in temps in the 20's, but not in winter, and probably not as well prepared for it as we should have been. So, knowing that people do it all the time, and knowing that some friends were doing it this weekend, we went to check out their little village of quinzees. I brought some lunch and cooked for them and in turn we got to check out the set up, got a chance to work on a quinzee and see how they're built, got to be inside one to get an idea if we could stand to sleep in one and got a chance to learn a little about winter camping.

WE DID NOT STAY THE NIGHT, so I don't want anyone to get that impression. We may try it in warmer weather. After unseasonably warm temps yesterday there was an arctic blast back in town today. Not the conditions I want to take my first winter sleep-out in. I just know myself and I have to break myself into these things slowly and I don't want to hate it first time. Today was like a learning exercise, just a feeler. We may give it a go at home, say about ten feet from the backdoor for our first try, just because I'm not as adventurous in my old age as I'd like to be, and because I secretly want to be successful and learn to work my way up to colder temps.
