Green Mountain 7-4-17
Green Mountain 1884' Hanson Top 1826'
3.8 Miles 1350' Elevation gain
Kevin, Judy, Riley & Wicket
On the Fourth of July we hiked Green Mountain with Riley and Wicket who had a ball despite the hot, muggy, and buggy weather. Judy stayed on the ground with the dogs while I climbed the fire-tower. It is necessary here if you want any views, and even then they are limited.
There is about a 270* clear view to the horizon east south and west, while the views to the north are filtered through the tops of tall hemlock and pine. To the south views include Province Lake, to the west the Ossipee Range, and to the northwest Ossipee Lake. Through the trees looking north one can spy Mount Washington, the Wildcats, as well as Pinkham and Carter Notch.
There was group of children at the top, and one little girl recognized the dogs, especially Riley from the day before on Jackman Ridge. "Look Mommy, those are the dogs we saw yesterday when we were hiking!" "No, dear. I don't think so." "Yes they are! Look at that one. One ear up, one ear down. That's them!"
We made the short trek over the Hanson Top, a second summit of Green Mtn. which offers a nice view south to Province Lake from the ground as opposed to climbing a fire-tower.
