  1. B-24 Crash Site Ceremony

B-24 Crash-site Uxbridge Massachusetts 5-18-23

Seventy nine years ago on this day (yesterday) my father survived a mid-air collision over Uxbridge, Massachusetts by managing to parachute from a crippled plane that was about to crash. Five of his crewmates were not as lucky. Today Wicket & Riley visited this hallowed ground on a hillside in Uxbridge where this memorial to the men of that flight stands. Before the war was over, nearly 15,000 men and women died STATESIDE during training exercises and accidents, never going overseas and never seeing a minute of combat. We owe them, and all veterans a huge debt of Gratitude. Please, remember the Veterans... May 18, 2023.

  • My Air Force service cap alongside my father's Army Air Corp cap. The cylinder was picked up by a high school kid on the day of the crash and kept for many years until it was presented to me some years ago. The wings & bars are from my father's dress uniform, of particular note is the small "Caterpillar Club" pin which was awarded to men whose lives were saved by a silk parachute. What appear to be rocks are actually melted pieces of the planes infrastructure.
