Connecticut River Swallow Murmuration 9-26-16
Birds, birds, and more birds. The mouth of the Connecticut River has never disappointed us when we have made the trip. Everything from the Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets which wade and fish along the shallows, to the Osprey and Eagles circling overhead, everywhere we look there are birds.
But the real show, the one that draws us back each fall, is put on by the Tree Swallows as they gather to get ready to make their journey south for the winter. There numbers as they congregate here are in the hundreds of thousands if not into the millions, and the show is spectacular! My photos can't capture this magnificence, but I keep trying...
